NEW SENIOR SCHOOL STAFF

Six new permanent members of the Senior School teaching staff took up their positions at the start of the 2021 school year .
JAY BAKER has joined our Physical Education department . Jay is well known to many at Scotch , as he was Head Coach of the 1st XI from 2015-19 . Jay spent 2020 working at Xavier College , and before that he was at Bialik College for 13 years . In addition to teaching Physical Education , Jay is heavily involved in cricket and is also a tutor in Gilray House .
MICHAEL FERGUSON joins our Mathematics Department . Michael holds a BSc ( Hons ) and a Master of Teaching from Monash University , and has spent the past 10 years lecturing and tutoring within the Engineering and Science faculties at Monash University . In addition to his teaching duties , Michael is a tutor in Lawson House .
DR BRENDAN FISHER worked for the School during Term 4 last year , when the boys returned after the period of remote learning . Brendan is now employed full time in the Science department . Hailing from Tasmania , Brendan holds a Bachelor of Biotechnology and Medical Research degree from the University of Tasmania . Moving to the mainland in 2015 , Brendan obtained a PhD and a Master of Teaching from the University of Melbourne . This is Brendan ’ s first teaching appointment .
ALICE KEMP has joined our History / Classics Department as Teacher of Latin . Alice holds a BA ( Hons ), a postgraduate Diploma of Teaching ( Secondary ) and a Master of Teaching , all from the University of Melbourne . Alice comes to us from Fintona Girls ’ School , where she has spent the previous seven years teaching Latin , having introduced the subject in 2014 . Alice is highly regarded in the Latin community , and has been the Victorian Curriculum and
Assessment Authority Assistant Chief Assessor for the past three years , and a written assessor since 2016 .
EMMA MCCOWAN has come to our Art department from Melbourne Girls ’ College , where she had spent the previous five years . Emma holds a BA in Graphic Design from Monash University , and Master of Art Curatorship , a Graduate Diploma of Teaching and a Master of Teaching from the University of Melbourne . Emma has also studied Fine Art at Goldsmiths College ( University of London ). She spent a number of years managing art galleries , and for the past three years has been an examiner in VCE Studio Arts . Emma has a strong knowledge of , and passion for , Aboriginal art , which will be put to good use in the Indigenous Partnership Program . In addition to her teaching duties , Emma is also a tutor in Monash House .
MATTHIAS POI has joined our Christian Education department , coming to Scotch from Carey Baptist Grammar School , where he spent the past five years teaching a variety of subjects . Matthias holds a BSc , majoring in Neuroscience , and a Graduate Diploma in Teaching from the University of Melbourne . Matthias is heavily involved in the South Yarra Presbyterian Church , where he has been a youth group leader , a Bible study leader and a board member . Matthias has also spent time in the Singapore Army . In addition to his teaching duties , Matthias is a Year 8 Form Teacher .
