SCOTCH EXTENSION STUDIES – BLUEPRINTS FOR A CONNECTED LIFE
‘ Extension Studies at Scotch is a warm and welcoming community ’
The extension and enrichment provided by Extension Studies activities are integral to a Scotch education for many boys . As these boys gather together with others who share their passions and interests , they find a home away from home where they belong , are affirmed , and gain the confidence and resilience to meet new challenges .
Here are three boys ’ reflections on their Extension Studies experiences .
When I started at Scotch I would never have imagined I would be taught how to argue by university students , and meet like-minded peers from across Australia through exposure to national and international level debating . Debating has equipped me with lifelong skills , including thinking logically and analytically , public speaking and communication skills , being able to think and improvise on the spot , as well as the value of teamwork .
Perhaps most importantly , to be successful at debating , one must learn to listen carefully to others , respond to their approach , and advocate one ’ s point of view respectfully , based on substance and logic .
Additionally , one of the most rewarding aspects of the experience is the people you meet along the way . It is my firm belief we learn and improve by listening to others and working together ; there is
