Medical Centre ( now Monash Health ), overseeing the pharmacy department on six campuses . In retirement he became its Emeritus Director of Pharmacy .
Ian received the Sigma award for Pharmacology , Prince Henry ’ s Hospital ’ s Samuel Wynn Award to study Hospital Pharmacy Practice in the United States of America , the Society of Hospital Pharmacists of Australia ’ s Medal of Merit for outstanding contribution to hospital pharmacy , and Monash Health ’ s Senior Medical Staff Outstanding Service Award . Ian was 2008 John Autain Distinguished Overseas Visiting Professor , Tennessee University ; and Visiting Professor , Clinical Pharmacy , Beijing Hospital of Ministry of Health ( 2009-11 ).
He chaired the Melbourne Teaching Hospitals Drug Usage Group , leading the introduction of the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme into public hospitals .
Ian married Laurise Zelle Humphreys at Scotch on 9 May 1972 . He died peacefully at home at Surrey Hills on 23 July 2020 , with his family .
LINDSAY , Dr David Alexander (’ 69 ) David ’ s classmate , Professor Rob Moodie (’ 70 ), wrote :
Dr David Alexander Lindsay was born on 13 April 1954 at Oxford , England . Emigrating to Australia in 1966 , Dave attended Scotch from that year until 1970 as a boarder in McMeckan House . He was a member of the 1968 and 1970 Athletics teams , a member of the 1969 1st XV , and 1970 premiership captain . Dave played well above his weight as a state under 20s backrower . He played many years in first grade rugby for Melbourne University , and for Oxford ’ s Radcliffe Infirmary side .
First Matriculating in 1969 , aged only 15 , Dave completed Medicine at Melbourne University in 1977 , and interned at Austin Rehabilitation Hospital campuses . An adventurer , Dave was among the last to
travel overland from Melbourne to the United Kingdom through Asia , the Middle East and Europe .
In 1978 , Dave met Sally Marigold Shelmerdine , and they married at Sorrento on 10 September 1983 . Their daughter , Jess ( Poppy ), was followed by Tim ( SC 2000-05 ), Jonno ( SC 2002-07 ) and Nick ( SC 2006-11 ).
Dave trained as an anaesthetist in Melbourne and England , qualifying for his fellowship in 1984 at the Austin Hospital . Snapped up by the Melbourne Anaesthetic Group in 1987 , colleague Dr Hugh Pearce stated , ‘ anaesthesia was his metier ’, and he ‘ established himself as one of the finest , most admired and most skilful anaesthetists in Melbourne ’.
President of Scotch ’ s Scrum Club , Dave served as the doctor on one Scotch Nepal trip , and at three annual Cadet camps .
As Chair of the Melbourne Anaesthetic Group , Dave engineered significant reforms that benefited all members .
An avid and highly competitive sailor – on couta boats off Sorrento or racing yachts off Hamilton Island – Dave was a keen skier at Falls Creek , and a dedicated follower of the Melbourne Rebels and Wallabies rugby union teams .
A skilful raconteur , Dave constructed stories in highly engaging and intricate ways . As an anaesthetist , sailor , fixer of desalination plants , planter of cypress pines , builder of beach houses , or a rebuilder of ski apartments , no details were beyond Dave .
He died , peacefully , at home at Toorak on 20 March 2020 , surrounded by his loving family . He is deeply , deeply missed .
McNAB , Roderick John (’ 67 ) Rod ’ s brother , Neil (’ 69 ), wrote : Rod was born at Jessie McPherson Community Hospital , William Street , Melbourne on 7 August 1950 , the son of solicitor and Old Boy Colin Edward McNab ( born 24.3.1922 , SC 1936-39 , died 26.4.1985 ). Among his relatives at Scotch were Rod ’ s brother Neil ( SC 1962-69 ), nephews Hamish ( SC 2006-11 ) and Callum ( SC 2009-14 ), and uncles Finlay McNab ( born 28.9.1914 , SC 1930-32 , died 8.5.2004 ) and Ian Robert Paul ( born 21.11.1927 , SC 1941-44 , died 3.7.2012 ).
Leaving Carey Baptist Grammar School to attend Scotch from 1962 to 1967 , Rod was a member of Morrison House . A Cadet Corps member , he was also a keen hockey player . Very interested in Sciences , Maths , and History , Rod did well at Matriculation . He was a brilliant and thorough student , graduating BSc ( Hons ) from Melbourne University in 1971 , having achieved honours in every subject that he studied .
His first job was in Sydney at Mobil Oil as a laboratory chemist , before moving into commercial sales . During this time , he completed a Master of Commerce at the University of New South Wales in 1978 , majoring in Accounting and IT .
Rod transferred to Mobil ’ s IT department in Melbourne in 1980 , and was posted to Singapore ( 1982-83 ). He became an IT project manager , and ultimately became a global IT consultant for Exxon Mobil .
On 15 April 1978 Rod married Jane Catherine Margaret ( Cathy ) Allcock at Killara , New South Wales . They had two daughters , Caitlin and Melissa .
Rod was a loving family man and a keen sportsman . He played with the Old Scotch Hockey Club for many years . He was a member of the Koomerang Ski Club for more than 40 years , including 10 years on its committee , mainly as the Membership Secretary , and was instrumental in setting up a web-based booking system which transformed the club ’ s existing system .
He loved the beach at Fairhaven , and was a keen surfer and lifesaver .
Rod developed dementia later in life . He died at Regis East Malvern on 10 August 2020 , survived by his wife , daughters , and two grandchildren .
