and their mother , Margaretha – to Australia , where Pieter and Robert attended Scotch from 1942-46 . Albert was imprisoned by the invading Japanese , but survived , and came to Australia in 1946 to repatriate Margaretha and the boys to Holland , before he returned to Indonesia .
Pieter was an excellent cricketer who played in Holland ’ s national team , opening the batting and making 77 in a notable match at The Hague in August 1964 , when Holland beat a full strength Australian team which had just retained the Ashes in England .
Now retired , Pieter is currently sorting through letters and reports in his family archives , encouraged by his daughter . He says : ‘ She is pretty sure that the next generations won ’ t be able to read these handwritten letters and reports , nor get hold of the grammar and spelling . Furthermore , many historical facts and events need some explanation .’ Pieter describes digging into the archives as ‘ a hell of a job ,’ which often creates more questions than it provides answers .
Congratulations to STAN LACEY (’ 53 ) and his wife , Susan , who celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in lockdown on 12 August with a home-delivered meal from their favourite restaurant . Stan later played 95 games from 1954-60 with Old Scotch Football Club , including 50 senior games , and he still supports Old Scotch . A mechanical engineer at GMH for 38 years , Stan received an Extraordinary Accomplishment Award for productivity and quality excellence . After retirement he built a holiday home at Safety Beach , and formed a public company to buy the Safety Beach golf course . He was Honorary Chairman of
the company for 10 years . Stan now plays at the National Golf Club at Cape Schanck at least twice a week , and currently holds the ‘ Wednesday Boys ’ 2019 trophy .

Barry and Joan celebrated their diamond ( 60th ) wedding anniversary this year : they were married by School Chaplain , Rev Alec Fraser , in the Littlejohn Memorial Chapel on 7 September 1960 . They have three children , DAVID (’ 80 ), JEREMY (’ 83 ) and Diane , and seven grandchildren , of whom ANDREW (’ 16 ) has attended Scotch .

Barry is also a member of the Mount Martha Rural Fire Brigade , having been the brigade ’ s Honorary Treasurer for 14 years . After Scotch , DR JOHN FREW (’ 57 ) studied Chemical Engineering , gaining a Bachelor of Engineering and a Master of Science in Engineering from the University of Melbourne , and a PhD from Northwestern University , Evanston , Illinois , USA .
John worked for the CSIRO ’ s Division of Chemical Engineering at Clayton until 1996 in modelling and automatic control of sugar crystallization , and then mineral flotation . After that for 10 years John was a consultant in mineral processing . Now retired , he enjoys music , cricket and chess .
