SILVER LINING FOR SOCCER CLUB
Inactivity on the field did have some benefits
Something good has to come out of every situation , and that can even be said for the disruption caused by COVID-19 . This year the refreshed committee has settled in ; the pitches have had sorely-needed time to recover properly ; the canteen staff have renewed their training ( and the wine list ); the already superb facilities at H A Smith Reserve have been further upgraded with improved
toilets ; new physio and gym equipment has been donated ; and some long-term injured players have been recuperating .
Special thanks go to our generous sponsors and to our loyal coterie group , but more support is always welcome – please contact our President , Howard Rapke , at Howard . Rapke @ holdingredlich . com .
Next year will mark the 40th anniversary of the formation of the club , which really ages a few of us badly . More news will follow on planned celebrations , but one thing is certain : there is sure to be another Legends game .
New senior players of all levels for either Saturdays or Sundays are welcome to contact Richard Snape (' 81 ) at rgsnape @ bigpond . com or 0412 450 485 and Sam Shearer (' 10 ) at samshearer21 @ hotmail . com . New juniors are invited to contact juniors @ ossc . com . au .
Training starts this month for the firsts squad , so dust off your boots .

Having reached the venerable age of 95 in February , LANCE WOODHOUSE OAM (’ 42 ) finally decided it was time to retire . Until August , Lance was a director of local developers , Kavant Nominees , but as he told the Shepparton News , ‘ People say , oh they ( Kavant ) have a director who ’ s 95 . It ’ s a bit ridiculous ’.
Lance and his wife of 72 years , Wilma , live at Kialla ( 9km south of Shepparton ), and Lance has been active in the Shepparton region since moving there in 1954 . He has been involved in founding many local projects , including the not-for-profit aged care facility , Shepparton Villages , the Driver Education Centre of Shepparton ( 1973 ) and Goulburn Valley Grammar School ( 1982 ). In June 1993 , Lance received a Medal of the Order of Australia award ( OAM ) for service to the community .
Asked by the Shepparton News to name the project he ’ s most proud of , Lance said : ‘ First thing is Shepparton Villages – it ’ s phenomenal . In 1954 when I arrived , there were absolutely no aged care facilities here .’ For the last 12 years , Anne and KEN SCOTT (’ 48 ) have lived at Sackville Grange Retirement Village , in Cotham Road , Kew , and they have enjoyed the environment and the company right through the pandemic . The couple ’ s elder son , JAMES (’ 79 ), works for Rowing Victoria and granddaughter Emily is a national weightlifting champion in the 50kg division . Second son , ANDREW (’ 81 ) operates Tasmanian Engineering Pty Ltd and also runs a merino farm . Andrew is very involved in the local Midland community through his daughter ’ s equestrian interests , and as a member of the Tasmania Fire Service . Anne and Ken greatly enjoy following the fortunes of their grandson , Jensen Plowright , who is a member of the Team BridgeLane continental cycling team , along with ALASTAIR CHRISTIE- JOHNSTON (’ 16 ).
Ken has been a member of the Old Scotch Lodge for 67 years and is also a Melbourne Cricket Club and RACV Club member . Anne and Ken enjoy attending East Melbourne Glen Chapter lunches .
