NORTH VERSUS SOUTH CONFLICT AVOIDED

A determined group of Old Boys and their partners managed to convene an OSCA Hobart Branch reunion dinner at the Shipwright ’ s Arms Hotel in Hobart on 7 October . This was a great effort in the context of COVID-19 .
David ‘ Titch ’ Taylor (’ 49 ) toasted the School eloquently ( much to the delight of some other diners who had unwittingly booked their special occasion in the same venue ).
There has been a longstanding debate whether these events should be held in the north or south of the Island . Brian Reddish (’ 65 ) rather cleverly summed this up with reference to Scottish history , as follows ;
‘ The reunion of the Hobart clan went well last night . A majority vote was held to make
Allistair Lindsay (‘ 85 ) the liaison Laird .
‘ We discussed bringing all the clans together and calling our reunions the “ Tasmanian Branch ” instead of the Launceston , Hobart , Penguin , Snug , etc ., branches , so as to prevent another Battle of Culloden , and we agreed to meet halfway in Launceston ( at say Josef Chromy Wines ) next year . That way it is central to the Northern , North Western , Central , Eastern and Southern clans . Also Launceston allows for good airline commuting for people from the mainland ( the Redcoats ).
‘ We also agreed that the “ Tasmanian clan ” should meet in October next year so that all the poor people isolating in Fort William ( foggy Melbourne ) can attend once
