SIGNIFICANT ACHIEVEMENTS DURING A FIVE-YEAR FUNDRAISING BLOCK

SCOTCH FAMILY GENEROSITY BRINGS MANY PROJECTS TO FRUITION
As we approach the end of the Development Office ’ s 2016-2020 five-year fundraising block , I thought it opportune to reflect on the accomplishments and significant strides the School and the Foundation have made in bringing many key projects to fruition during this time .
Even the most cursory glance at the Hawthorn campus reveals a landscape that has been significantly reimagined in a relatively short period .
As the accompanying photographs attest , where there was once a car park , now stands the Sir Zelman Cowen Centre for Science ; a vacant block has given way to the Spencer Centre for Design and Technology ; the warren that was once the ICT Department in the Lithgow Building now houses the open , flexible and inviting spaces of the English Department ; the School ’ s original gymnasium has been transformed into the refectory that is the Keon-Cohen Dining Hall ; three discrete Federation homes in Morrison Street now form an interconnected suite of rooms that comprise the Tolson Centre – a complex that will change the way Scotch can engage with its community through the Archives Museum , OSCA House and the Scotch Shop when restrictions are eased .
But it is not only buildings by which we measure the collective achievements of the last five years . Scotch Family generosity has also extended to the recent creation of three new scholarships , enabling boys who might not otherwise be able to attend the School , to do so .
The Tony Briggs (’ 85 ) Indigenous Scholarship , the Michael Robinson AO (’ 55 ) Boarding Scholarship and the General Sir John Monash ( 1881 ) Scholarship – each in its appropriate way pays tribute to the person for whom the scholarship is named , and reflects the context of their contribution to , and association with , the School : Tony Briggs , as Scotch ’ s pioneering Indigenous student of renowned athletic ability and the performing arts ; and Michael Robinson , passionate proponent of boarding , and a towering presence at Scotch over four decades . Sir John Monash GCMG KCB VD was a man of exceptional gifts , whose profound impact on the course
