STAFF RETIREMENTS
CHRIS HAYES
Initially employed to a short-term replacement position in 1978 , Chris was appointed as a full-time teacher of Physical Education in 1979 . Since then , Chris has been a stalwart leader of the Physical Education Department , introducing a generation of Scotch boys to the basic skills of swimming , gymnastics , ball sports and weights , in addition to the joys of competitive sport .
That all was done with humour , a demand for excellence and an expectation that each boy would give of his best , safe in the knowledge that the necessary support and encouragement would be provided , explains why he is held in such high regard . Chris was appointed as Head of Department in 2008 , and his collegial and supportive manner helped maintain a department with the highest standards and an enviable reputation .
Chris ’ s contribution in sharing his talents and interests with boys and colleagues was significant and far-reaching . A talented sportsman in his own right , Chris offered his guidance across a number of sports , but especially cricket ( 16 years ), and his first love , football .
