numbers in each sport . The impact was obvious , with large smiles on faces and the opportunity to mix with peers provided .
Our programs continued to build , and with the easing of restrictions , we quickly found ourselves back into summer sports training for outdoor sports , closely followed by indoor sports and the resumption of internal and external fixtures .
Cricket and tennis resumed , with limited unofficial fixtures against St Kevin ’ s College , Xavier College and Melbourne Grammar School in mid-November . This has set the scene for APS-fixtured games in Term 1 , 2021 . We will look to play all 10 opposing schools in both sports , which will mean cricketers will play a blend of 20 / 20 , 50 overs and two-day cricket matches next year . Tennis will also schedule an abbreviated version to combine with its traditional format .
Congratulations to Joshua Rubins ( Year 12 ) who received the Don Davenport Award for his outstanding contribution to Scotch athletics . While a season did not take place , this award recongises a boy ’ s efforts and endeavours during his time in the sport . Joshua was a very deserving winner with some outstanding performances in the individual sprint events in his age group , including second
places in 200m events at the APS Athletics Sports . His journey has been anything but typical in the sport , as he struggled to make teams before a couple of key development seasons and some quiet determination put him among the team ’ s better performers each year .
I also wish to acknowledge our Year 12 boys for their bravery this year and wish them well for the future . They have been an amazing group to work with , and we will miss their involvement at Scotch .
School sport will be back bigger and better in the future , with a greater appreciation of the important role it plays . We also look forward to welcoming back our parents , friends and families who have been noticeably missing from the campus . I am sure they will find plenty to cheer about watching Scotch teams in 2021 , especially as the boys will be resplendent in their brand new sports uniforms .
