THE BOYS OF THE HENRI TOUZEAU STRING ORCHESTRA HAVE REHEARSED EVERY WEEK , IN PERSON OR ON ZOOM , CREATING SEVERAL GREAT PROJECTS .
String players from Years 2-12 participated in the recording experience . They are to be congratulated on their focused learning online , which allowed the recording to happen immediately on our return to school .
AGED CARE PLAYLIST
During Term 3 , Touzeau students participated in a month-long playlist project , focused on contributing to their communities positively through music , specifically aged care . Boys were challenged with the question ‘ Am I playing musIc ( music for me ) or mUSic ( music for the community )?’ They explored the practice of music therapy and the significant and powerful role music can play in the lives of older Australians .
Boys were horrified to discover that the music you remember as you age is the music you listened to as a teenager , instantly reflecting on their current music choices and envisioning their 90-year-old selves . The boys were then tasked with learning and recording repertoire such as Somewhere Over the Rainbow , understanding the increased capacity to evoke memories and comfort for older generations .
With 262 recording submissions , recordings were combined and playlists created . Playlists were then electronically sent to aged care facilities and provided to boys ’ families to share with their older relatives . Richard Cheasley ( Year 9 ) said : ‘ I really enjoyed recording songs for the people in aged care to enjoy , because it made me feel like I was helping out people in the community ’.
Aged care facilities members , staff and families were so grateful for the boys ’ incredible contributions , as they shared their music in such a powerful way . AMBERLEY BREMNER – TOUZEAU STRINGS TEACHER
