Scotch Streams has become central in keeping boys connected during periods at home
STAFF AND STUDENTS CONNECT WITH EACH OTHER THROUGH ‘ SCOTCH STREAMS ’ EVENTS
As many of us have to come to appreciate even more during this pandemic , Scotch is so much more than the academic classes we take each day . At the end of Term 1 , with remote learning looming , ‘ Scotch Streams ’ was born . A site for boys and run by boys , Scotch Streams became a temporary replacement for the many extracurricular pursuits at Scotch .
With weekly messages from the Principal , the Chaplain and myself as well as many of the activities detailed below by eight Year 12 boys , Scotch Streams has become a central part in keeping boys connected during the period at home . The efforts of the boys , as well as the Dean of Students , Mr David
Brown , have made the site a huge success with over 70,000 page views during the course of Term 2 .

INTERSCHOOL PUBLIC SPEAKING AND DEBATING – RION AHL
During the remote learning period , Scotch competed in a variety of novel speaking competitions , strengthening relationships with schools across Melbourne . This series of events began with an interschool debating competition with MLC , wherein the speakers argued on whether some schools should remain same-sex . Such a competition brought together over 60 students from each
school to cheer on their respective team .
This was followed by a public speaking competition developed by Scotch against Lauriston , Melbourne Girls ’ Grammar and Camberwell Grammar School . Around 100 students gathered to watch both prepared and impromptu speeches , and the competition was a success in bringing together school communities through the new virtual world .
