Honour for film society stalwart
David Purvis ’ loyal , knowledgeable service recognised
After more than 26 continuous years of service to the Old Scotch Film Society – most of those as Secretary or President – David Purvis (‘ 44 ) was awarded Honorary Membership of the society at the 2019 annual general meeting .
This very knowledgeable , passionate film buff has guided the society through many program selections during his time on the committee – a total of more than 1364 films !
David ’ s encyclopedic knowledge of films , actors and directors , enhanced by his frequent attendance at pre-release screenings , gives his film introductions at our screenings a special edge .
The good news is that David has agreed to stay on the film society ’ s committee , continuing to contribute to the wonderful film diversity we offer every year .
During lockdown , the society is still functioning . Members watch selected movies within a given period , on free services such as SBS on demand or ABC iview . Email discussions and star scores are shared .
