A RICH SCOTCH HERITAGE
No pressure – but a high bar to meet
Year 10 boys Tom Sellars-Jones , left , and Will Buckley are more than just two Scotchies standing together . Both have a Scotch DNA spanning generations , dating back to the 19th century .
Tom ' s father Richard ( SC 1974-86 ) and grandfather Graham Sellars-Jones ( SC 1945-53 ), and great-grandfather Colin Samuel McKay ( SC 1921-32 , 1932 School Captain ) only take Tom ' s direct lineage back to 1921 . However , Tom ' s Scotch connections date from at least 1896 , when his first cousins thrice removed , George Herbert and William Cunningham McKay left their home at the Commercial Bank , Footscray , to attend Scotch until 1897 . Their uncle was Hugh Victor McKay , of Sunshine Harvester fame .
Will Buckley ' s father Jonathan ( SC 1972-83 ; School Council ; OSCA President 2015 ), grandfather Peter Buckley ( SC 1951-55 , former School Councillor ; OSCA President 1985 ), great-grandfather Donald John Nairn ( SC 1922-25 ) and great-greatgrandfather Hamilton McLeod Stobie ( entered Scotch from Blackwood in 1879 ) are just some of his many Scotch relations .
Both boys had descendants lost to war : Tom ' s first cousin thrice removed , Alan McKay ( SC 1910-14 ) on 14 November 1916 , and Will ' s second cousin twice removed , Graeme Grieve Stobie ( SC 1930-40 ) on Australia Day 1944 .
With more than one School Captain , other school leaders , members of first teams , high academic achievers and men with considerable service to Scotch among their forebears , these boys have not only a rich Scotch heritage , but also a high bar to meet .
