Dinner on the Rooftop After a two-hour recharging of my body battery at the dreamy and elegant Spa at The Ritz (special thanks to Kelly Seward, General Manager) I was now ready to head to the main event, a special dinner hosted by non other than Salvatoré Ferragamo. As I walked out onto the patio deck of the ballroom, I was greeted by the most beautiful tablescapes I’ve ever seen. The linen was ivory damask with gold designs throughout, white padded chairs and colorful floral arrangements were at each table. In the back-ground sat two huge globe light balls that gave the most wonderful illumination resem-bling moonlight to cast a magical glow on the evening. Also on the deck was a wooden curio cabinet with champagne glasses, ice buckets and bottles of Il Boro, Ferragamo’s brand of wines for display. Upon arrival of the guests to the reception, each was greeted with a cold, refreshing glass of bubbly and then led to be seated at the table after a bit of mingling. Salvatoré made an introductory a speech and described the wines. Then it was on to the business of enjoying delicious food and wine. The dinner menu consisted of the following: • A stunning starter course of Smoked Salmon Balik, Radishes and Caviar Crème Fraîche • Followed by the most pillowy soft and rich Lump Crab Ravioli with Roasted Corn Rel-ish and Herb Salad • A main course of succulent Dry-Aged Rib Eye, Eggplant Caponata, Roasted Aspara-gus and Date Jus, and… • A dessert of Lemon Layer Napoleon, Lemon Curd and Cream Cheese Mousse and Berry Compote. Of course, all the wines complimented each course and it was fun to pair a different wine with a course other than with what it was served. As the night came to a close, the cool desert air and the warm glow of the balloon lights made me wish I didn’t have to ever leave. I could be California dreaming forever in Coachella Valley, but alas, all good things must come to an end. I would like to give a special thanks to The Ritz Carlton Rancho Mirage for their warm hospitality and thanks to Palm Springs Life Magazine for inviting Momma Cuisine and allowing me to be a correspondent on her behalf. Finally I would like to thank Salvatoré Ferragamo for taking the time to sit for an interview and talk about his wines, his family and the Il Boro Brand.
