It wasn ’ t their first trip either , having celebrated their 2018 engagement at the same beautiful beachfront escape . Sitting pretty on the island of Maui , the resort delivered a magical setting for the couple ’ s intimate , heartfelt vows , with the gentle wash of ocean waves completing the scene . And though they left friends and family at home ( after an incredible send-off party ), support came from an unexpected source . Taking in their first moments as husband and wife , the couple was met with a roar of applause and cheering . “ Strangers from all over the world — from guests on the thirdfloor hotel balcony to joggers along the beach — were celebrating us ,” says Helena . “ In that moment , we felt the presence of our family and friends .”
The happy couple had another important ally . “ Picking a good officiant is very important , especially when there ’ s no one else at the ceremony ,” says Helena . “ Pia was the best .” The bride also made a clever decision in organising for the bridal gown and suit to be shipped beforehand rather than carrying them through the airport .
