Love (& loved ones)

Remember, the most important part of your elopement is the two of you, and your love. Just focusing on one another and your future together is a very intimate, powerful and precious experience.

But also spare a thought for your nearest and dearest. Many of them have always dreamed of sharing this huge moment with you. Prepare for the fact that your decision may cause a few waves, maybe even a few tears. The best way to navigate these very valid emotions is to remind family and friends of how much you value and love them. Don’t get caught on the defensive. Stay positive and firm on why you’re doing this: eloping is about the two of you, not about

excluding anyone.

Keeping things under wraps? If you’re planning to slip away for a secret ceremony, consider sharing with your parents before announcing “we did” to the world. You want them to hear it from you rather than from a family friend who happened to check Facebook first.

Top tips: If loved ones are in the know about your plans, consider live streaming the event (check with your photographer/videographer for options). Hosting a post-elopement party back home is also a fun way to celebrate, share memories, and make your family feel included.
