People travel from around the world to explore coral reefs; This desire creates a demand for diving tours, snorkeling tours, fishing trips and new hotels and restraunts. The tourism from Florida Keys alone has an asset value of $7.6 billion.
On an environmental note coral reefs prevent erosian and act as a natural barriers againt typhoons, hurricanes and tsunamis. Half a billion people live in close proximity to coral reefs and so the reefs provide them with the benefits of protection and production.
