AlASKA
Pudge who's new to school, ends up meeting a group of friends who is lead by a girl named Alaska. She is head strong and a rather complex character and a little hard to understand at times. Pudge falls in love with Alaska as the book goes on. It shows his struggle to to fit in with a group that he doesn't completely get. There are so many characters in this book who have a background and you see all of the characters come into their own. They stick together if they're arguing . This books goes to show that even the poorest of kids can have just as much fun as the richest. They often come off as a little conceeded and only worried about themeselves. They think they can get away with anything as if the rules dont apply to them.
“When adults say, 'Teenagers think they are invincible' with that sly, stupid smile on their faces, they don't know how right they are. We need never be hopeless, because we can never be irreparably broken. We think that we are invincible because we are. We cannot be born, and we cannot die. Like all energy, we can only change shapes and sizes and manifestations. They forget that when they get old. They get scared of losing and failing. But that part of us greater than the sum of our parts cannot begin and cannot end, and so it cannot fail.” This quotes reflects todays teenagers because we're so stuborn, head strong, and determined on being "different" and "ourselves" that we forget the bigger picture. We can be ourselves and be headstrong but it's proven that we all work better together. The group of friends rise above their problems becoming completly different people in the process and you definitly see it at the end of the book. It is refreshing to see that even the unluckiest kids can win in the end.
