BURN

The Burn Journals chronicals the events of Brent Runyon. Brent was a straight A student all the way up until high school where he felt that slacking off was an easier way to fit in. As his grades went down, his dangerous suicidal behavior went up. He had enough so he tried to kill himself by setting himself on fire because of a little accident that happened in school. Fast forward and you'll see him in the burn ward barely holding onto his life. "God, I wish I never done this, I just want to go home, I just want to go home," he thought as he was being wheeled to the ambulance.

As the book goes on, he describes his whole life after the accident. The book was all about accepting what has happeened and moving on in the most positive way. He knew he was never going to be the same, he knew that people where going to look at him differently. “The only problem with seeing people you know is that they know you.” He thought that no one was every going to love him after that accident. In todays world if you arent 6 feet tall and have "looks", then you aren't good enough no matter what the circumstances are. It leaves people like Brent feeling like crap.

“You're all trying to figure out what went wrong inside my head. idiots. You'll never crack the code that's inside my head. You'll never get into my castle. You'll never even get past the gate.” He was never afraid to open up before the accidant and came acrossed sort of blunt, but ever since he's kept quiet. He thinks now that he has to bite his tounge becuase he knows he's already going to be judged over his burns. The last thing he needs is to be judged over what he says. “Every time I open my mouth to say what I'm feeling, something stops me and I have to make sure I'm not going to say anything stupid. It makes me crazy. And then, once I've figured out what I'm going to say, I have to go over it, over and over again, just to see if what I'm feeling is right. And then I have to figure out how to say it.” The book goes on finishing his story and as you read you see him emerge and become his own person.
