Pantone adds 294 new colours
In the first addition since 2016, Pantone has added 294 “trend-
relevant” colours to its Pantone Matching System. The move
creates an overall library of 2,100 colours – including improved
cross-referencing to Pantone’s Fashion, Home + Interiors (FHI)
system allowing for more design flexibility. The latest colour
additions “are the most stable and consistent printed colours,
with updated cross-referenced data for closer uniformity
between physical and digital formats,” said the company. “The
new colours offer an even more seamless process to transition
between physical and digital mediums, as well as the oppor-
tunity to create truly cross-platform designs, from inspiration
to production.” Key features of the new PMS colours include
the addition of basic colours (neutrals, tans, grays, navy,
blacks), more stable and consistent printed colour guides
updated cross-referenced data for closer parity between
physical and digital formats, and access to all PMS colours in
real-time through the Pantone Extension for Adobe Creative
Cloud. Pantone also announced that designers can now
access and use the most up-to-date Pantone colour libraries
within the latest version of Adobe Illustrator, InDesign and
Photoshop. A new Pan-
tone E x tension for
Adobe Creative Cloud
allows users to search
both PMS and FHI colour
systems to easily con-
vert CMYK, RGB, and
Hex values to Pantone
colours.
FSEA and PaperSpecs release free Foil Cheat Sheet
The Foil & Specialty Effects Association (FSEA) and online
graphics hub PaperSpecs have released the Foil Cheat Sheet,
a metallic foil decorating reference for graphic designers.
It contains a section detailing and illustrating each of the
following techniques and materials: Hot Foil Stamping, Cold
Foil Transfer, Toner Digital Foil, Varnish Digital Foil and Foil
Substrates. FSEA and PaperSpecs worked closely together
to outline the advantages and disadvantages of each type of
metallic foil process, providing valuable information to print
and packaging designers who may be unfamiliar with the
variety of available foil decorating options. For each process,
the guide lists potential providers, available colours, run
lengths, paper options (coated or uncoated), advantages and
disadvantages. At the back of
the publication is a foldout
chart comparing all techniques
side-by-side. A free PDF download
is available at www.foilcheat-
sheet.com. More information
on ordering a print/foil version
of the Foil Cheat Sheet is avail-
able at www.fsea.com.
