New onsite book-on-demand printing service launched in Europe

Ricoh Europe has partnered with French start-up Orséry to unveil a “ revolutionary approach to personalized print-on-demand book production .” The new process allows end users to print their own publications on-site in locations such as bookstores and
Christian Vié libraries in minutes . Or , end users can print a book from an extensive catalogue of several thousand titles . The breakthrough approach is ideal for self-publishing , highly personalized storybooks , technology and business publications and more . Orséry used four Ricoh Pro C7100X digital colour sheetfed presses with inline perfect binding to print the books . Christian Vié , Orséry Founder and CEO , predicts that many more presses will be installed across France within the next three years . He then hopes to license the approach worldwide . “ This is a fresh distribute-and-print approach to book production ,” he said . “ We worked with Ricoh for three years to identify all the required elements including toner , paper , glue , hardware and our own software .”

Over 19,000 visit 2017 SGIA Expo as new Print United show looms

In one of its most successful events to date , the 2017 SGIA Expo in New Orleans October 10-12 welcomed more than 19,100 visitors . The show featured 600 exhibitors showcasing the most innovative technologies and products in the printing
Ford Bowers marketplace . “ The Expo is always exciting , and not just because it ’ s the largest printing show in North America ,” said SGIA President and CEO , Ford Bowers . “ It ’ s where you go to see and learn about the evolution of the print industry .” Attendees were clearly ready to make purchases and add innovation to their organizations , said show organizers . The 2018 SGIA Expo will take place October 18-20 , at the Las Vegas Convention Center . Many new announcements were also made , not the least of which was the new Print United show to be held in Dallas , Texas in 2019 – a joint venture between SGIA and NAPCO Media . “ Print United sets the stage for the sectors that are moving more and more into the SGIA orbit ,” Bowers added .

Mimaki USA has appointed Naoya Kawagoshi to President . He was previously VP of Sales for Mimaki USA covering Canada and the U . S . Kawagoshi came to Mimaki USA in 2012 from Mimaki Engineering ( Nagano , Japan ), where he was the
Director of the Japan Sales Promotion Department responsible for all sales promotion and marketing activity in that country . Prior to that , he held progressive sales and management positions at the Mimaki Fukuoka and Tokyo Branch Offices . He ’ ll remain a member of the Mimaki USA Business Planning Division and retain his office in the company ’ s Western

Idealliance launches bold new initiatives

Idealliance ’ s three new initiatives will help executives manage their print businesses during an industry in transition : The Institute for Strategic Research , The Institute for Strategic Leadership , and the Idealliance WorkPLACE Industry Development Program . The Institute for Strategic Research will focus on detailed studies of key issues affecting the industry during this transition . Ryerson hosts free Graphic Arts Day in Toronto

Friday , October 13 was a lucky day for students as Ryerson University held its Graphic Arts Day event in conjunction with ICC ( International Colour Consortium ) meetings at The Heidelberg Centre , home of the School of Graphic Communications Management ( GCM ) at Ryerson University in Toronto . The informationpacked day saw expert speakers focus on current trends and issues in colour management . The event also included a
Ryerson ’ s Reem El Asaleh , PhD with presenter and GAM columnist Jason Lisi .
Print Media Research Centre ( PMRC ) session , where students and faculty from Ryerson ’ s School of Graphic Communications Management shared their latest research findings on various topics and industry sectors .
