It’s showtime on many fronts
I attended Mimaki Canada’s Future of Fabrics seminar January
17 at its showroom in Concord, Ontario. The inaugural event
had over 80 pre-registered attendees, but many more showed
up during the day. Officials from Mimaki and Imaging
Alignment Corporation (IMAC) discussed how to expand a
printer’s business opportunities with the OEM’s products.
There were live demos of Mimaki dye-sub and direct-to-textile
printers, as well as its UV-LED and eco-solvent printers.
Technical specialists discussed future fabric and textile
printing technologies. Presentations from Mimaki’s Lucas
Crossley, Victoria Nelson-Hall, Ryosuke Nakayama, and
IMAC’s Al Whittaker, were extremely informative.
I also attended an equally interesting event January 23 at HP
Canada’s headquarters in Mississauga, Ontario. The Digital
Imaging Association meeting explored opportunities in
short-run digital packaging – and how the future of many
print businesses will be “selling less of more.” A panel of
industry experts from both the vendor and the converter side
revealed why short-run packaging will be a huge opportunity
for commercial printers moving forward.

equipment suppliers in recent years. Plus, several educational
conferences, sponsored pavilions and other co-located
events will also be available. Watch for online updates of
the tradeshow and a preview in our March printed issue. And

Finally, congratulations to Heidelberg, who won the 2019
Digital Edge 50 Award in the US for its Heidelberg Assistant
customer portal. Basically, the digitization solution ensures
the smooth operation of a print shop’s new digital business
models. Congratulations also to Canadian print MIS leader
Avanti for being named to DPS Magazine’s 8th Annual Top
30 Readers’ Choice Awards. The awards highlight the most
innovative publishing solutions created by forward-thinking
companies for today’s digital revolution.
As always, stay positive and stay focused.
