Improving Safety and Beauty of Arlington Neighborhood
Arlington neighborhoods are becoming safer and more attractive , thanks to grant funding and partnership between Arlington ’ s Grant Management Team and Code Compliance , focused on making a positive impact and difference in the community . On April 18 , 2023 , Code Compliance Officer Beecham identified code violations on an Arlington property posted “ No Trespassing .”
Beecham researched the property , successfully contacted the owner , and issued violation notices for nuisance outside storage and unclean premises . Beecham ’ s main objective was to get voluntary compliance from the property owner and avoid a city abatement . Voluntary compliance was achieved in this case with a positive outcome . “ Over 50 tires were left in the driveway that were spilling into the street ,” a concerned Arlington resident said . “ The appearance was one of a low life ; it ’ s good having Code Enforcement to help .”
This public health and safety hazard was eliminated without the City having to pay for a costly abatement estimated at $ 2,000 ( or more ) to remove and properly dispose of the trash , furniture , clothes , tires and other debris on the property . “ I am so happy about this property being cleaned up ,” said Beecham . “ I never knew that tires being removed from the property could make me so proud .” Beecham ’ s mission as a Code Compliance officer assigned to the Neighborhood Revitalization Strategy Area ( NRSA ) is to improve the community quality of life by making it cleaner , safer and wellmaintained . This owner abated removal of code violations is a great success .
The NRSA is a Community Development Block Grant ( CDBG ) grantee-designated area that funds Beecham ’ s position that she is working diligently to revitalize . The CBDG in partnership with the city ’ s Grants Management department and Code Compliance supports the City Council ’ s priority to Champion Great Neighborhoods .
