In Program Year 2024, the City of Arlington, with support from Community Development Block Grant( CDBG) funding, prioritized youth-focused initiatives aimed at strengthening academic achievement, fostering positive development, and expanding access to enrichment opportunities for underserved youth across the city.
A range of impactful programs received funding to meet these goals. Through partnerships with organizations such as HOPE TUTORING CENTER and the BOYS & GIRLS CLUB OF GREATER TARRANT COUNTY, youth benefited from in-school and afterschool tutoring as well as academic summer camps designed to reinforce learning and prevent summer learning loss.
BIG BROTHERS BIG SISTERS provided one-on-one mentoring relationships that promote long-term academic, social, and emotional growth by connecting young people with caring adult mentors. These relationships play a critical role in building selfesteem and encouraging goal setting among Arlington’ s youth.
GIRLS INC. OF TARRANT COUNTY delivered empowering educational and recreational programming specifically designed for young girls, with a focus on reaching those from low-income families. These initiatives not only support academic development but also promote leadership, health, and self-confidence.
The PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT’ S BUILD A DREAM PROGRAM offered financial assistance to help low-income youth access after-school care, music and art classes, swim lessons, and summer camps— ensuring all children can participate in meaningful recreational and learning activities, regardless of economic barriers.
In addition, the City supported DENTAL HEALTH ARLINGTON’ S SMILES SEALANT PROGRAM, which provided free dental health education and preventive sealant treatments to first and fourth grade students in Title I schools throughout the Arlington Independent School District. This effort helped promote long-term health outcomes through early intervention and education.
Together, these investments reflect the City’ s commitment to nurturing the potential of Arlington’ s youth by expanding access to education, mentoring, enrichment, and health resources— laying the foundation for a stronger and more equitable future.
