COMMUNITY IMPACT HIGHLIGHT
UNITED WAY OF TARRANT COUNTY
United Way of Tarrant County( UWTC) is committed to mobilizing communities across North Texas to ensure every individual can thrive. The organization identifies critical needs, fosters collaboration, and invests in solutions that drive change in four key impact areas: community response, community health, financial stability, and education and learning.
At the UWTC Arlington Regional Office, the focus is on human service planning, fostering collaboration among nonprofits, businesses, and civic leaders, and facilitating the implementation of community-based solutions. This is achieved by building human service infrastructure, mobilizing resources, informing the community, and engaging key stakeholders in the nonprofit, business, and civic sectors.
United Way of Tarrant County – Greater Arlington( UWTC – GA) continues to bring together community leaders, nonprofits, and civic stakeholders to identify and address critical challenges facing residents in Arlington and surrounding areas. Support from the Community Development Block Grant( CDBG) has played a pivotal role in enhancing operational capacity, streamlining program delivery, and improving overall service outcomes.
UWTC – GA proudly facilitates the Grant Review Committee in support of the City of Arlington’ s CDBG, ESG, and HOME funding processes. In 2024, the Committee was composed of 35 dedicated volunteers who contributed a combined 528 hours to reviewing and evaluating funding proposals— ensuring a transparent and community-driven approach to federal grantmaking.
One of UWTC – GA’ s most impactful initiatives is the Greater Arlington Resource Sharing Group( GARSG), a collaborative network that strengthens the Arlington nonprofit sector by fostering peer connection, knowledge exchange, and shared learning. In 2024, GARSG hosted 10 hybrid lunchand-learn meetings covering pressing issues such as housing stability, healthcare access, and workforce development. These sessions engaged 389 attendees across more than 170 organizations serving the Arlington area.
“ I absolutely love being a part of the Resource Sharing Group! It provides valuable knowledge about the things that are happening in my community as well as connecting the dots with the people who are also in my community and doing great work. Definitely a‘ bucket filler’ for me!”
— Jennifer Cathcart, GARSG Steering Committee Member
UWTC – GA also continued its efforts to advance economic mobility through the Financial Stability Partnership, engaging members of the financial services sector to strengthen local financial wellness initiatives. In 2024, five targeted stakeholder collaborations provided financial professionals with critical insights into community needs, helping to inform strategies and tools that address economic insecurity at the local level.
A highlight of this year’ s financial literacy efforts was the second annual Reality Fair, hosted in partnership with Frost Bank at Sam Houston High School. Nearly 100 students participated in this hands-on experience, where each was assigned a career and monthly salary and learned how to manage real-world expenses. With guidance from local volunteers, students explored budgeting, credit, and savings in a simulated environment— preparing them for future financial decisionmaking beyond the classroom.
Together, these initiatives reflect UWTC – GA’ s unwavering commitment to building capacity, empowering nonprofits, and improving the quality of life for Arlington residents through strategic collaboration and innovative programming.
