The future is always uncertain
There’ s a reason nostalgia is such a comfortable state of mind. The past is no longer a mystery to us. On the other side of the coin is concern for the future. Many fear the future because uncertainty frightens them. While that’ s also been the case for every generation, we know that young people tend to be more optimistic about their uncertain futures. I hope that’ s still the case. Get a bit older and you realize you’ re a bit wiser simply because you have more mistakes and successes to look back on. Which dreams were achievable? Which dreams were silly? Get even older and you can look back enough to know that even the line of thinking that questions dreams is a bit immature. Of course dreams can be silly. That’ s the point of dreams. We dream we can fly. We don’ t dream we figured out a better way to sort our inbox. Your generation has maybe more than in previous generations to enter the world with even more uncertainty. There’ s a lot going on, and some of it’ s kind of scary.
It’ s a good thing you have the power to sculpt the world into a better place, even it it’ s the immediate world around you. The future is determined by the determined. You just have to dream it.
