6 | ACADEMIC DRESS AND DRESS CODE Academic Dress and Dress Code PLEASE NOTE: JEANS AND TRAINERS ARE NOT PERMITTED. All graduands must wear an academic gown and hood appropriate to the award to be conferred. When should I order my academic dress? We advise that you order your gown and hood before the deadline of Friday 7 June 2019. Availability cannot be guaranteed for orders after this date. How do I know which gown and hood to choose? Academic dress relates to the qualification you will be awarded (e.g. BA, MSc, PGCert) rather than your subject. For example: Dress code Graduation ceremonies are a formal occasion, which is reflected in the dress of graduands and their guests. Graduands should wear suits/trousers, shirt and tie/smart dress/blouse with skirt or trousers. • Bachelor of Science in Nursing: Bachelor of Science gown and hood • Master of Science in International Business: Master of Science gown and hood Please see page 7 for further information on academic dress. How do I order my academic dress? Ede & Ravenscroft are our official academic gown suppliers. You will find the gown hire order information on page 8. Please note: Jeans and trainers are not permitted. USEFUL TIPS: • Wearing a shirt and tie or a blouse with buttons will make it easier to fix the hood of your academic dress. • Hair pins are useful to secure the mortarboard (hat). • Safety pins can be used to secure gowns and hoods.
