Insecurity
The word secure is a composite word built from two Latin words, 'se' which means without and 'cura' which means care. So being secure simply means being without care. The etymology of the word has an implicit meaning of attachment to a solid body being the reason of no care. For example, we say have you secured the doors to mean have you locked the doors so that we will not worry about thieves breaking in.
The opposite of secure is insecure, where 'in' is simply Latin for not. So a person who is insecure is someone who is not without care. The opposite of insecure is not confident as many seem to suggest. You can be confident but still remain insecure. The object of your confidence determines your security. If you are confident of yourself, your spouse, your family, your job or any other fellow creation, you are insecure. All the objects of your confidence are nothing but dew in a tropical morning, they vanish with the rising of the sun.
Christ out of His infinite wisdom, tells a parable of a fool and a wise person. A wise built his house on a rock, a sure foundation, highly secure. But a fool built on sand. When the winds, and the rains came the fool's house was destroyed. Jesus talks with Martha, who was cumbered with much serving. Jesus tells Martha that she had lots of cares (not without cares) but Mary had chosen the best and no one will take away that from her (secure).
Rock Bottom
Few days ago, God ministered to me on this point but I could not right about it cause was busy with travels and other things. I was meditating on a woman called Ruth. For many years we have studied Ruth in two segments. The first segment we focus on Naomi and her family, then the last segment on Ruth. However, God led me to look at it in Ruth's eyes.
Ruth was a Moabitess, which meant she belonged to a tribe which God despised. God by His grace declared that He will have mercy on whom He will show mercy and will despise those He despise. Ruth got married and few months down the line she was a widow. She could have returned to her people after all she was free to get married to anyone she wanted. She had reached rock bottom and at the bottom she discovered the Rock.
Sometimes later, she was a widow following after harvesters, and without her knowledge the owner of the field so her and inquired about her. Can I talk to someone who is ashamed with what they are doing now, to someone who thinks they have reached rock bottom. The owner of the field is beaconing on you. Without your knowledge the harvesters have been asked to intentionally drop the barley for you. This is favor baby!
Can I take you deeper? I am talking of the rock bottom. Ruth never knew that the same field she is beggarly picking might one day belong to her when favor fully happens to her.
"Sometimes God lets you hit rock bottom so that you will discover that He is the rock at the bottom." Tony Evans
