PATIENCE PLEASE
L
ewis Hamilton was clearly upset
immediately after finishing fourth at
the Austrian Grand Prix, and asked
reporters to be patient with drivers as
emotions run high in the aftermath of a
race.
Speaking to reporters after posing
for photos with Valtteri Bottas and the
Mercedes team celebrating the Finn’s
victory, Hamilton was more chilled, “You
have to have patience with us as drivers,
and I can’t speak for everyone else but
you can’t be happy every day you have a
result, no matter whether it’s second, fifth,
10th.”
“Wherever it is, you’re gonna be
p*ssed at one point because you put
so much into it. You train, you sacrifice
everything to make sure you get the result,
the best result possible.”
“So when you don’t personally deliver
and other things are stacked up against
you it’s hard to come out smiling because
that means you don’t care enough.”
“The fact is I care more than I need to.
There are days when it feels more painful
than others, there are days when it’s easier
to handle and I think I’ll move forward.”
“So when you write your stories or
when people make comments, just bear
that in mind because it’s not a sign of being
ungrateful or anything like that.”
Hamilton’s victory in Montreal is his
only podium in the last four races, while
title rival Sebastian Vettel has also had
his share of issues the Ferrari driver has
managed to eke out the points gap to 20.
