ewis Hamilton qualified on pole and led the
Australian Grand Prix early on, but lack of
grip forced him to pit far earlier than his rivals
for fresh rubber. He emerged from the pit lane
behind the Red Bull of Max Verstappen, there
was no getting past for the Silver Arrows driver
until the teenager pitted and by the time he did
eventual race winner Sebastian Vettel was well in
command of the race. Hamilton and Mercedes had
no answer as it dawned on them that this season
Ferrari are seriously hunting them down.
