Q&A WITH THE RISING STAR ARYAN ROOPA ANAND GP: Most infl uenced by? ARA: Tiger Woods. Love the way he moves the needle. GP: Is there any foremost feeling that you get, at the fi rst tee off during the commencement of a tournament? If Yes, Share the same. ARA: Nothing really. I’m just excited to play every ti me I enter a golf course. GP: How has golf helped you in your day-to- day ac vity? ARA: Golf has made me more pati ent and disciplined. It has also taught me the value of ti me and being organised. ryan Roopa Anand started playing golf in the year 2009, when he was only 8 years old. With over 130 tournaments throughout his junior career he recently won the presti gious All India Amateur at Eagleton Golf Resort. Aryan was the only player in 119 years to win both the stroke play and the match play format of the event. In 2019, he was also a part of the Singapore Junior Open and the only Indian to win it aft er 19 long years. 9-10 events a year across India in diff erent conditi ons and with some of the best nati onal golfers. GP: What are your future plans? ARA: My dream is to become the World No.1 golfer. The road is simple, move up the ranks step by step starti ng from the Amateur Tour, PGTI, Asian Tour, European Tour and fi nally the PGA Tour. That’s what I’m working towards. GP: Who prompted you to take up golf out of all the other sports? ARA: Aft er watching my father play golf, I picked up the sport at JWGC. ARA: I completed my educati on ti ll 10th Grade at Nati onal Centre for Excellence in Bangalore, and the school was very supporti ve. I completed my 12th through NIOS while I was staying at the Tarun Sardesai Golf Academy. End of the day, it’s all about ti me management. My daily routi ne involves 6hrs of training and 3hrs of studies. GP: What’s in your bag? • Wedge: Titleist SM7 Vokey 46, SM6 Vokey 50, Taylormade milled grind 56. ARA: Playing on the IGU tour has defi nitely helped me improve as a golfer. ARA: Build yourself a good team to work with and play events not trying to win but by trying to learn something from those 4 days of competi ti on golf. GP: Fitness is really important. Tell us about your day-to-day fi tness regime. ARA: I workout at the TSG fi tness centre with Mr. VP Sudarshan. I do my strength training 3 ti mes a week, conditi oning twice a week and core work twice a week. I also do Prehab 4 ti mes a week. Prehab is basically injury preventi on and it is an important factor if you are on the road for 6-7 weeks.
