f there is one mantra that I have learnt in my life that I would like
to pass on to the next generation: “The sure shot way to success is
to FOLLOW the PROCESS “day in and day out. That’s all what the
champions are doing differently and that’s all that will make you a
champion.
It requires an amazing amount of discipline and commitment to your
goal BUT its defi nitely the sure shot secret to success.
Following the process starts early in our life and most of those activities
we tend to detest , like wake up in the morning and go to school , having
your meals on time, doing your home work daily , sleep on time etc etc..
all are helping us get trained towards following a process. To get success
in any fi eld, the mantra is to lay down a process and follow it to the T.
So also in Sport and in our case to hit the best shots and to get great
results and under par scores all you got to do is to do the same thing
over and over again. Nick Faldo was such a fanatic about his pre-shot
routine, he had timed it to the second.
As we approach our shot, its imperative to
clearly describe what is in front of us. The things
to look at would be
a. Distance
b. Lie
c. Wind
d. Pin Position (whether back mid or front, left
side or right side of green )
Lie of the ball
Club selection
After describing the problem, we need to assess
and À nd the best solution. This could include
a. club selection
b. whether full shot or three quarter or half etc
c. shape of the shot : whether left to right or right
to left
d. height of the shot : whether low or high
e. which side to miss : Short /long /left /right in
case of bad shot
