TO ALL THE

JUNIOR GOLFERS PARENTS

“ You just have to give the initiative and support and no one could stop your child to be successful and do what he actually wants ”
Manresh Malhotra has been an example of a successful Golfer Parent one should be . After their son coming into Golf 2 years back , they have taken all the steps to make him a successful golfer . They are working together in building the attitude and behaviour a Junior Golfer must have . Which has been positive and Vihaan is now amongst the top 10 players in U . S Kids .
According to Mr . Malhotra “ It ’ s almost a one- week procedure especially when you are playing an international tournament . It ’ s like a package and a full-time job ying out and you have to go around 4 days before . Before the tournament you have to do the practice rounds . Let your child play coolly and happily . Happiness is the most important thing which will make him / her a good player . You cannot pressurise them that you did not play good today . Always and always celebrate their success as well as their failures . But on the other side you have to explain them that the burning desire is important in your stomach . If you don ’ t have the desire you are wasting your time . You have to be competitive in today ’ s world . Never ever take that as a challenge : if he has not performed well today so he need not to be scolded , No that ’ s not upbringing . And obviously they will mature with age . You cannot expect a 8 or a 10 year old boy to just be serious on a golf

course from morning to evening .”
It ’ s all about being together , being with them and guiding them that this is what needs to be done so that you come across their faults and you start working on them . You just have to give the initiative and support and no one could stop your child to be successful and do what he actually wants . That ’ s what parents need to do . Manresh Malhotra proud parent of a junior shared his few thoughts with GolfPlus Junior .
GP : How and when did you initiate your child into golf ? I initiated golf myself in 2012 and my son started playing 2 years back . We are hands on parents we don ’ t miss any tournament we don ’ t miss his training and it ’ s been like a journey . We have seen scores from 120 and he is coming down to now 80 . So that ’ s the journey for the two-years .
GP : How often does he play ? When the schools are on he goes for the weekend classes and sometimes when he gets time in between . So when the schools are on he goes for 2-4 days a week and on holiday ’ s we try to increase the frequency .
GP : Has he participated in any tournaments ? He is amongst the top 10 players in U . S Kids . Has played The Venise open , The British open and also Malaysia open , In India he is playing IGU , Albatross and Ace tournament also .
GP : What is his practice regime ? Saturday Vihaan goes on a class with Coach Monish Bindra- does a little bit of tness before he starts playing . And whenever he gets time he sends Vihaan to Siri Fort to hit balls or sometimes Qutub or even DGC .
GP : What are the traits to be successful in golf ? Traits to be not only a successful golfer but instead anything else for a player he / she needs to have the discipline and an attitude in life . You have to have perseverance of doing things on a platform where it is a continuous process . You cannot say today I ’ ll play tomorrow I ’ ll leave and then you start playing again . With this laid back attitude you won ’ t be able to be successful . It is a continuous journey in life and you got to be sincere and then only you can be successful and can achieve something . And especially when you talk about sports there has to be a regime set in life . Like you brush your teeth everyday It is important for you to practice ones or twice a day .
GP : In your opinion are there enough opportunities to take up golf as a career in India ?
