When you’ re in the car with your child, turn OFF the radio and talk or play a game about the things you see. A game that my son and I frequently played when he was preschool / pre-kinder-age was to phonetically“ spell” out objects we saw while in the car, by sounding out the phonetic sound of each letter and having the other person guess what you saw and were spelling. I was surprised by how quickly my son picked up on the game and by how much he loved it. I really think it gave him a great head start when he started reading in kindergarten!

Sometimes it can be so easy to yell at the kiddos when they are not listening. Stopping to think about what I’ m saying and how I’ m saying it is really teaching me to become a more patient mom. Instead of yelling, I’ m talking to my kids, which really helps me understand that sometimes kids just need a little bit of patience given towards them. The way you react to your children and their actions is all about staying even and controlled. Using positive parenting instead of lashing out is vital to keeping a good healthy relationship between you and your child.

MAKE YOUR CHILD A“ MUST-DO LIST.” HANG IT IN THEIR ROOM. Tape it to something they will look at right away( like the TV). I don’ t know about you but the most frequently asked question I get from my 7-year-old is:“ Wait, what am I supposed to do?” I believe our young people suffer from short-term memory loss. This was a constant frustration for me when trying to get us out the door. Then, a good friend shared THE LIST with me.
