The Ghost of the Past By James Walker
Slam! The Front door shut and a car sped off into the distance, it was Genny’ s mum going to work. Genny woke up and realised the bed cover was on the floor so she was freezing in her pyjamas. She trundled down stairs and started to make cereal. She smelled the milk. It smelled of rotten eggs so she decided to put water on the cereal instead. The small hoops were soggy and definitely past the sell-by date.
She gently closed the door and started to walk to school. She looked at her watch and she only had ten minutes before her class started. She started to sprint but her hat blew off in the wind and her blazer was already soaked from the rain. She started to run again, but after she got down the alleyway she stopped, and thought she saw a shadow but nobody was there, so she carried on running. After Genny got to school she rushed in and got to maths, she was an hour late. She was given detention after school and headed off to her next lesson
After school Genny started to run back home, this time she was happy it was raining because that way nobody could see the tears rolling from her eyes. Genny watched her best friend Molly and her family drive past but when she waved they just drove on. Days like this happened all the time since her dad had died last year and it was awful. Only a week ago her boyfriend Darren had broken up with her and now her best friend thinks that she’ s invisible. Suddenly she turned the corner and thought that she saw her dad but there was nobody there at all. After she got home she dried her tears and went to get tea. It was cold and there wasn’ t really much to eat.“ Where were you?” mum asked“ It’ s been two hours.”“ Detention.” She moaned. Her mum started to give her a hug but her phone buzzed and she stopped.“ I’ ve got to go to work,” said mum“ Bye.”
Genny ran to her room and lay in her bed. She turned over from her tear soaked pillow and stared at the ceiling.“ It’ s days like this that make me wish I was dead.” she cursed. In the corner of her eye she saw a quick black shadow move across the room. As it went past the curtains, they shook eerily.“ Are you here to disappoint me too?” She asked sarcastically. She dried her tears and closed her eyes to go to sleep. It seemed like a long night. Genny woke up and rubbed her eyes but she wasn’ t in her bedroom. She was in a graveyard. She looked around and she was on a grave, she went closer to read it and it had her name on.
