RV FEATURE
Technically , this was not our first caravanning experience , as for about 10 years we had an on-site van in Eildon , Vic – but that was a lifetime ago .
And about 10 years ago , we borrowed a friend ’ s van for a trip to Pambula , NSW , which was such a disaster I said ‘ never again ’.
But my husband , who is a firefighter , had been wanting to venture down this path again , with me very against the idea of any sort of camping – I preferred hotels and resorts .
A large group of fire-brigade friends go caravanning and camping each year to Tocumwal , NSW , so in a moment of weakness I agreed to go if my husband could find me a lovely van to rent .
So he set about doing this , and I must say he came up with the goods . He rented us a beautiful 21ft Jayco Silverline from Eastern Caravans .
We loaded the van and even had the grandkids come and have Maccas in the van before we set off .
As we drove into the bush , I was nervous and excited . We arrived at a site on the Murray River ( we were free-camping ) and it was beyond gorgeous . There was lots of sandy beach and a great group of people .
Now , I was so surprised at how I felt after the digital detox . We had very little internet and while at first I thought it would be awful , it became a blessing .
The thing I enjoyed the most was how comfortable the bed was and waking up to a view of the Murray . I even slept in until 9am – that never happens . Must have been the fresh air . Waking up in a panic before realising I had no where to be … ah , caravan life .
