Caravans tossed around like toys by flood waters .
Keep in mind these events will require you to be able to communicate with emergency services , family , friends , insurance companies or airlines and that may be in remote areas .
You may need quick access to money and in quite substantial amounts . You may have to decide who flies home and who stays with your rig to get it home . Or you may want to transport your van or put it into temporary storage and return for it at a later date .
If your vehicle suffers a major mechanical breakdown , it may need to be freighted to a major city centre for repairs . You may need to pay for emergency accommodation .
There are literally hundreds of possible situations that could occur and it would be almost impossible to prepare for all of them . But , by putting in place contingencies for some of the more dramatic of these events , such as an emergency fund in the bank , a satellite phone , and assignment of responsibilities and expectations for each of your travelling party , you will be better prepared than if you only focused on the good stuff .
