Known as the Capital of the Ochre Outback , Alice Springs is about as close to the geographical centre of Australia as you can get . WEST MACS
Tjoritja West MacDonnell National Park stretches for 161km west of Alice Springs and makes for some pretty exciting and incredibly scenic day trips to take in its natural wonders . From fresh-water permanent waterholes to ancient gorges , hiking trails and ochre pits , the array of culturally significant landmarks here is so impressive .
We visited Standley Chasm ( Angkerle Atwatye , meaning “ the gap of water ”), an incredible geological formation billions of years in the making . It is a significant cultural icon for the Arrernte Aboriginal people that have lived in this area for tens of thousands of years .
