RV FEATURE
RIGHT SUSPENSION
The right suspension is critical . Old fashioned leaf-spring suspension is not adequate . Independent suspension with coil springs and shock absorbers will make for a more comfortable offroad touring experience , allowing each wheel to travel independently over undulations , with much less shock being transferred through the van itself .
Glen also recommends air-bag suspension for serious offroad travel – if your budget will stretch that far .
A PUMP KIT
According to Glen , A roving water pump kit is certainly very beneficial to be able to fill shower tanks with clean stream water .
GOOD COMMUNICATION
Depends on where you ’ re travelling , Cel-Fi will boost and repeat weak cellular signal . This coupled with a vehicle ’ s UHF is a popular combination . But for more remote travels , a satellite phone or messenger , which will allow you to send text messages from your smartphone anywhere in the world , is essential .
OFFROAD TYRES
Glen Gall recommends matching tow vehicle and caravan tyres . He recommends Kevlar-walled tyres to decrease the chances of a puncture , with a tyre pressure monitor kit fitted . He said you should pack a pump and tyre repair kit , which will allow you to ‘ plug ’ small holes – this could get you out of trouble in the event of a puncture .
