TRIP OF A LIFETIME

The year was 2012 and as with any child about to start school for the first time , our little Gracie was no different as she prepared for the excitement and wonders of grade prep . Grace was faced with challenges , having been born down syndrome , but that never seemed to worry this adventurous , spirited little girl . She had already overcome many challenges in such a short period of time .

A DEVASTATING DIAGNOSIS
In February of the same year , we were struck with deviating news . Grace became very unwell . Doctors at Melbourne ’ s Royal Children ’ s Hospital delivered the news that Grace , at the age of 6 , had acute lymphoblastic leukaemia ( ALL ), which is basically a type of blood cancer . After processing this information and the shock that followed , we learned that childhood survival rate of ALL was in the vicinity of 85 per cent , so the odds were in her favour .
