JUST RELAX IN JERICHO

THIS FREEDOM CAMP , LOCATED BEHIND A HOTEL IN JERICHO , QLD , IS ABOUT AS PLEASANT AS IT GETS ...

The Jordan Valley Hotel in Jericho , Qld is new to Camps 11 – we checked it out on our outback Queensland trip last year .
Robert and Gay Stubbs purchased the business in 2005 but didn ’ t take over management until 2013 . Gay makes meals for any workers staying in the rooms , even packing them a morning tea and lunch for their days at work .
Thursday night is pizza night and , on Friday nights , the older locals get a nice home-cooked meal . Tuesday to Sunday , you can order your own meal if you are travelling through or if you ’ re a local .
The camping area behind the hotel is flat and grassy . It is for patrons of the hotel and for selfcontained vehicles only . Register on arrival . There are no pets or generators allowed .
It ’ s a great town to visit . Look out for the ‘ Joshua the Trumpeter ’ statue and the ‘ crystal trumpeters ’,
which tell the biblical story of how Joshua won the battle of Jericho . You will also see a flood level marker in the main street .
It has the smallest drive-in theatre in Australia ( you ’ ll have to time your trip as it only opens once a month ).
We also stopped at Jericho ' s two other awesome pet-friendly freedom camping options : the showgrounds have amenities ($ 5 to $ 15 per night ), and Redbank Park on the river ( Qld sites 442 and 444 in Camps 11 ) has toilets and cold showers ($ 6 per night ).
