FIRST AID
This should go without saying but , when on tour , always carry a wellstocked first aid kit . In addition to the usual antiseptics , bandages , and solutions for washing wounds , this kit should include a pressure bandage for snake bites and a broad-spectrum antibiotic , if possible . We would be remiss to neglect a recommendation to undertake a first aid course , too , for reasons which should be obvious .
STAY IN TOUCH
What ’ s your plan for staying in touch with loved ones back home , as well as contacting emergency services should the need arise ? UHF radios and mobile phones have their place , but in remote Australia , they won ’ t cut it .
A satphone is a great solution , but we ’ ve recently become fans of the ZOLEO Global Satellite Communicator , which allows you to send text messages to friends and family , as well as send out an SOS , at affordable rates .
Whatever you decide , the most important thing is that you have some reliable means of communication when in remote areas .

RV FEATURE
KEEP YOUR COOL
Whatever the situation , whether you ’ re negotiating traffic with a large van in tow , or backing onto a site in front of other campers who ’ ve taken a sudden interest in your reversing skills , try to keep your cool . This is easier said than done , of course , but with time and experience , you ’ ll develop the confidence you ’ ll need to handle your rig safely and expertly in all situations .
