TOWING AND TOURING TIPS !
SHARE THE DRIVING
This tip is obvious but it bears repeating : if you are travelling in a partnership , it ’ s important that both partners know how to pack up camp , hitch up , and tow confidently . If one of you become incapacitated , will the other know how to handle the rig ?
COUPLED UP
I ’ m of the view that the humble 50mm ball coupling is perfectly adequate for general caravanning and should be suitable for most blacktop touring caravans that are not designed to tackle serious undulations . It has a time-proven design and good self-guiding characteristics for those times when you haven ’ t backed up perfectly in line with the towball .

Having said that , consider hedging your bets and going for a coupling that offers a complete range of motion . There is a range of such couplings available , each offering a different hitchingup experience – some are easier to operate than others – so ask other vanners for their opinions .
I would personally recommend that you consider a coupling that will allow you to easily hitch up when you need to approach the towbar at an angle – it ’ s not always possible to do so in a perfectly straight line .
