FROM DEALING WITH SWAY TO DRIVING TO THE CONDITIONS , TIPS 12 TO 18 ARE ABOUT WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN YOU ’ RE AT THE WHEEL .

SWAY
Hopefully , your van is fitted with sway control . If not , the best way to get a swaying caravan back under control is to apply the override function of your in-cab brake controller . Get used to it – pressing that button or flicking the switch should be as natural to you , as the driver , as using the indicator when changing lanes .

CUTTING CORNERS
Any caravan will take a shorter path around a corner than its tow vehicle . Even if you only hit a kerb with the van ’ s tyres , you risk damaging the tyres ’ sidewalls , which may lead to a blow-out .
If there ’ s a wall or pole on or near the corner , that can end up damaging the van itself . Therefore , always approach a corner as wide as practical ( and always legally ), taking a wider sweep around the corner , and always keep an eye on the tow mirrors .
