Sometimes it ’ s refreshing to go offgrid and have a detox from everything online . It is , however , also important to have some form of communication device , just in case you run into any troubles while you ’ re away .
Most travellers will make some plan to contact specific people regularly as a way to confirm their location and safety during their route . But what do you do when you ’ re planning any length of time away from reception ?
We already travel with an EPIRB and a personal locator beacon ( one for land and one for sea ) for that exact reason – we just never know when we might find ourselves in a crisis with no phone signal and in need of emergency assistance .
Given what we already carry , I ’ ll admit when we were asked to give the ZOLEO Global Satellite Communicator a try , I wondered if it was truly something we ’ d use on the road . I mean , wouldn ’ t it just be doubling up on gear ?
