DON ’ T MISS THE GOLD COAST ’ S PEAK RAINFOREST CAMPSITE AND GATEWAY TO THE SCENIC RIM

My heart sank as the evening news broadcast that the historic Binna Burra Lodge and 42 cabins were lost in September 2019 to a relentless fire that had engulfed the property and surrounding Lamington National Park .
The brave and exhausted emergency services crews battled the blaze as best they could from the ground , with helicopters water bombing in vain from the air . The heart of this iconic destination was gone forever , leaving visitors from every corner of the globe with only memories of this once secluded rainforest escape .

Growing up as a Gold Coast local , Binna Burra Lodge and the Lamington National Park was a favourite destination for my school camps , weekend family getaways and countless bush walks with friends over the years . I knew a revisit with my family now was an important part of the rebirth of this unique and special place .
Just over a year after the fire , the efforts of hundreds of council and community workers , and Binna Burra staff , achieved an incredibly important step in the journey to rebuild and reopen this historic environmental destination .
