LOCK AND KEY BY MAX TAYLOR

About five years ago , my camper trailer was nicked from my driveway . Yes , I know that storing it in my driveway was a bad idea . That ’ s a lesson I learned the hard way .
I also learned that a simple coupling lock involving a diminutive padlock was not an ideal device to secure a van . Imagine my surprise when , in the morning , I discovered my camper was missing , and then spotting that measly padlock laying on the ground like some kind of an insult , having been defeated by bolt cutters .
If nothing else , this experience gave my wife plenty of fodder for dinner-party conversation .
After all , she was the one who had warned that a crappy padlock was no security at all .
Truth is , RVs of most types are highly prized by thieves . That ’ s why in this issue , we ’ re looking at what you can do to protect your pride and joy . While the coupling lock and wheel clamp are important ( why I didn ’ t fit a wheel clamp to that old camper I will never know ), there are plenty of technological solutions available , some of which we delve into here .
Wherever you are , as this trying year grinds to a close , I hope you are safe and enjoying every minute of your travels .
