WINNING LETTER

NO HELP NEEDED
The letter ‘ Beware the Helper ' ( GoRV # 41 ) spurred me to write this . Just yesterday , as a solo woman traveller in a 4WD motorhome , I rocked up to my overnight camp and was reversing in , no problem .
A gentleman leaped up from the comfort of his camping chair , beer in hand : “ Left-hand down a bit , right-hand down , straighten up !”
I wonder if he would have demeaned a male driver by offering the same advice ?
My vehicle has two reversing cameras , aimed at different angles . I have been driving for more than 40 years . I have reversed successfully , unassisted , more than once or twice over the years .
On another occasion , a gentleman bounded out from the safety of his caravan awning , beer in hand : “ Left-hand down a bit , righthand down , straighten up !”
Problem was , I ' m in a motorhome and he was guiding me as if I was reversing a caravan !
Sometimes an extra pair of eyes is really helpful . I will always ask for guidance if need be . And I thank the travelling fraternity for their generosity in sharing advice , but gentlemen , I know you mean well and thank you for that . But please , please don ' t assume that the possession of breasts automatically excludes women from the ability to reverse !
