SHUT DOWN BUT STAYING STRONG BY MAX TAYLOR
As I write, Victoria is a week into its stage 4
‘lockdown’ restrictions. But, with some small
but vocal exceptions, we accept it as
necessary in order to curtail the worst public
health disaster in generations.
We’re all doing our bit down here. Victoria is
Australia’s RV manufacturing capital, with
about 90 per cent of Aussie vans built just
outside of Melbourne.
These manufacturers were required to
temporarily close until mid September, and
there is no doubt this will have a bearing on
customers’ ability to plan their trips.
It is estimated that 4000 workers from more than
50 Victorian RV factories have been affected.
However, a number of manufacturers have
publicly confirmed they will ramp-up
production in order to fulfil customer orders as
quickly as possible.
The shutdown extended to Victoria’s RV
dealerships, too, though service departments
were able to remain open under certain
conditions.
On a personal note, please continue to
exercise caution and common sense, even if
you live in a state with minimal or no Covid-19
cases. This ain’t over yet.
