Q GoRV: Travellers ‘stuck’ in holiday parks up north are concerned that their nightly rates are going to increase as we come into the peak season. Have there been conversations with park operators about their rates, since many travellers don’t have the option of going anywhere else? A SL: There has been much confusion around the country regarding the plight of on-the-road travellers, many of which have been unfortunately caught out through travel restrictions. As to rates, they are generally a function of supply and demand. Our advice for travellers who are stuck in a location is to negotiate with their holiday park dependant upon their circumstances. It is hoped that if the outbreak can be contained that maybe we will see some lifting of restrictions by geographical region, which may allow for some movement and better choices available for consumers. Q GoRV: As the national body, what have you been able to do to support the holiday park industry and therefore the travelling public? A SL: We are constantly working with our state-association colleagues in having government understand our sector, and much work was done by all to have what were unworkable restrictions lifted to at least allow for some transactions and business to be conducted. New South Wales was the last to fall in this regard, but it took a lot of lobbying by all to have unreasonable trading conditions lifted. Apart from coordinating information out to our state associations for distribution to their members, our focus now turns to recovery marketing and making sure that government supports our industry investment in getting people moving again and in particular into holiday parks as quickly as possible.
